Initial arrival to Den Haag

Fiddler's was the first pub, social gathering, I went to in Den Haag. Arriving the first day in Den Haag, from living in Ireland, was thrilling and exhausting at the same time.

Once I stepped off the train at Holland Spoor, I had to contact the Pick-up service, consisting of other Erasmus students. I was carrying everything I would need for my new life in Den Haag tightly packed into one piece of luggage and my backpack. I tried to use one of the phones inside Holland Spoor to call the pick-up service I arranged for, but the phone didn't work. I proceeded to the information desk to ask the attendant if there was another phone nearby. He was so gracious and accommodating to lend me his cell phone.

The pick-up service met me outside of HS. They drove me to the DUWO office where I signed my apt. lease and picked up my keys. The white van drove me and a few other people to find our apts. It felt like hours of driving around before finally getting to my apt. I think it just seemed to be an endless drive due to how extremely tired I was. They helped me get settled into my new home, and told me that later in the evening I could meet up outside De Haagse Hogeschool in order to introduce myself to others in a social setting, Fiddler's.

I unpacked, showered, slept for about two hours, and then made my tired, jet-lagged self discover the way from my apt to De Haagse Hogeschool meeting point. About 30 of us walked to Fiddler's for some fine beverages and conversation. I hadn't any idea at the time that some of the people I met there would become eminent to my stay, and that long-standing friendships would be established.

Fiddler Brewpub

Fiddler's was a former music shop, and then became Den Haag's first Brewpub. It has a nice corner location in Den Haag's city Centre. Almost regular visits where made to Fiddler's.
